Based in northern Virginia, Potomac Haven is a woman-owned small business that has operated at the nexus of strategic communication, multimedia development, open innovation, and business information technology transformation since its founding in 2015.

The 8(a) certification, which required an eight month-long evaluation, differentiates Potomac Haven. SBA assesses more than 2,000 applications annually for the nine-year program, which currently has fewer than 7,000 certified participants. For context, SBA estimates more than 30.2 million small businesses operating in the United States.

“This represents another important milestone for our firm,” said Tammy White, Potomac Haven president and chief executive officer. “As we continue to build our portfolio of award-winning public-sector projects, and expand our footprint in federal government, we look forward to fully investing in the 8(a) program’s many resources and opportunities.”

Potomac Haven’s federal clients include the General Services Administration, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Department of the Navy, and Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, among others. Its track record of solutions delivery and customer service—along with its infrastructure for sustained growth—all helped to position the company squarely for the coveted certification.

The SBA 8(a) program provides business assistance to a select group of small disadvantaged businesses following a rigorous application and review process.

As a program participant, Potomac Haven can obtain set-aside and sole-source contracts up to $4 million for goods and services and $6.5 million for manufacturing. SBA also provides specialized business training, counseling, marketing assistance and executive development.

The 8(a) program provides socially and economically disadvantaged small businesses with a foothold in government contracting, positioning firms to graduate as viable ventures that can compete and thrive in a competitive business environment.

To that end, SBA requires all participants to participate in annual reviews, business plan assessments and systematic evaluations.

Potomac Haven is a member of the Tysons Regional Chamber of Commerce and valued partner of the Medical Society of Northern Virginia.
